Spring has finally sprung, and with longer days and warmer weather ahead we are in the mood to plan al fresco dining. Here are some of our top tips for a fresh table setting.

  1. Use natural accents. From raffia to wood, natural objects add warmth and a casual vibe to a picnic or dinner. Go all out with wooden plates, or extra touches such as a bread basket or serving platter.

  2. Layer. Elevate your place settings by adding layers with placemats, or stacking bowls on plates.

  3. Simple centrepieces. Simple vases with dried flowers are the perfect easy table setting, and the best part? Dried flowers last forever!

  4. Interesting textures. If you don’t want to go with a full-on tablecloth, why not use a runner or hammam towels to drape on the table or chairs? It’s a great way to add more textures and colour to your setting.

  5. Keep it seasonal. Take inspiration from nature and add spring flowers or summery citrus fruit to your table.

  6. Pest control. As the sun comes out so do the critters! Keep midges and pests at bay with citronella candles and woven or mesh covers for food if it’s sitting out on the table.

  7. Be prepared. As we know, warm weather in the UK is never reliable. When evening falls have some throws or blankets to hand so that you can stay outside in comfort.
